Classic Dropdown

A traditional vertical dropdown menu with up to three levels of nested items. The simplest menu type — ideal for standard site navigation.

When to use Classic Dropdown

  • Standard navigation with hierarchical pages
  • Category trees without visual or content-rich panels
  • Sites where a minimal, text-focused menu is preferred

Creating a Classic Dropdown

  1. Open the Ruby Menu Builder and click Add Sub-Menu, select Classic Dropdown as the menu type.

  2. Create Dropdown Sub-menu items, as much as 3 levels deep. Drag&Drop order:

  3. Click Save when you're done.

Open to the left

From the second level onward, each item with children shows an Open Left checkbox. Check it to make that item's submenu open to the left instead of the default right — useful when the menu is positioned near the right edge of the viewport and the default expansion would go off-screen.

Note Top-level items always open downward. The Open Left option only appears on nested items (levels 2 and 3) that have children of their own.

Adding icons

Each item — at any level — can have an icon assigned via the built-in icon picker. Click the icon field in the item editor and select from the icon library.

Link types

Each item's link can point to:

  • Custom URL — any URL you type
  • Page — any published WordPress page
  • Post — any published post
  • Category — a post category archive
  • No Link — for items that exist purely to open a submenu (hover-only)
